Description
The first image conveys a simple paradox: the red tape needs to be cut but the scissors needed are themselves bound up with the red tape and therefore cannot function. The second image adds a little humour to the mix by showing a crocodile moving out of it’s residence (a stamp on a postcard) with an equally unlikely scenario of it preparing to eat some fuschia flowers which appear in another stamp. The third image shows William Blake’s famous painting ‘Ancient of Days’ being consumed by a paper shredder. I titled this work ‘Days of Ancient’ partly as a spin on the painting’s real title but also to suggest how our new world seems to glorify in mythologising or eliminating meaning in history and historical artefact. The fourth photo, which I’ve named ‘binding contract’ shows a rubber band bound to, yet cut open from the blade of a knife. Although it makes use of paradox like the first photo, it has no specific meaning and is open to interpretation.
